Events - Flower Film Festival in Assisi [RUNNING NOW]
Assisi(Pg). Now in its second edition, the Assisi Flower Film Festival will run from July 1st to 5th, dedicated to nature in all its forms and expressions. This year’s festival will see a number of full feature film length showings, as well as documentaries and videoclips presented by established and emerging directors from both television and cinema, all inspired by the ever-pressing and present theme of biodiversity and ecological compatibility.
The competition that is part of the festival will be divided into five different sections: Silver Flower for debut works, Copper Flower for the best videoclip, Golden Flower for young authors who have already established a name for themselves, Platinum Flower career prize for acclaimed Italian and international directors and Palladium Flower for works with a high artistic, moral or ethical value... Spoleto (Pg). As part of the events organised for this year's edition of the Spoleto Festival, on June 26th the Rossobastardo free and itinerant performing arts stage under the artistic direction of Andrea Paciotto will open in a restored emporium in Via del Mercato 2, right in the old town centre of Spoleto. Although the full programme and the artists that will be performing is still secret, the organisers promise a dazzling calendar of Italian and international names for what looks set to be one of the highlights of this 52nd edition of the festival.

Perugia. The Umbria Jazz summer jiving season is back with a calendar full of highlights and international stars ranging from Paolo Conte to Burt Bacharach, James Taylor, Cecil Taylor and George Lewis. This year’s edition of the festival, which will close on July 19th, will also have a section devoted to pop music, with a selection of sophisticated independent musicians of the calibre of Steely Dan, Simply Red or the Roy Haynes trio and Ahmad Jamal. Standard evergreen lovers will not be disappointed by the three tribute evenings celebrating the genius of Nat King Cole: George Benson and a large string orchestra, the crooner Allan Harris and Nat’s brother Freddy Cole. The black music programme of this year’s festival includes BB King, Solomon Burke, Maceo Parker and John Scofield with the New Orleans project, while the Italy-United States connection will be underscored by Wynton Marsalis - Francesco Cafiso and an unprecedented piano duo featuring Chick Corea and Stefano Bollani. Italian jazz will, as always, also feature strongly throughout the programme with – among others –Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Gianluca Petrella, Enrico Pieranunzi, Renato Sellani, Danilo Rea, Roberto Gatto and Gabriele Mirabassi, plus a curious ‘intrusion’ from Gino Paoli.
